Meet a Knotling. These tiny beings are a clan of fairy that make there homes in hollow fallen trees and the knots of ancient trees. They are very shy creatures rarely seen by human eyes. Knotlings are about 5 inches tall. They (like humans) come in a number of shapes, sizes and colors. They have hands and feet that are similar in shape to that of tree frogs. This makes them very efficient climbers. Knotlings are good natured fairies who love to laugh, eat (mostly vegetarian) and drink (mostly sweet wines). The clan loves traditional folk music, dance and are accomplished wood carvers, rarely surpassed by others. |

Knotlings are one of a kind originals. No molds of any kind are used. They are made using my own polymer clay mix, wood, grape vines and/or twigs. All polypores (mushrooms) are real. The wood is given a bleach bath and than baked for 1 hour to make sure it is clean. All other natural items are also baked for 1 hour. They have glass bead eyes. |
Knotling History: The first Knotlings were born (created) in 2007. I was hiking in the woods and woundering what could be living in the knots of the trees. Most certainly they would have to be some sort of fairy folk. When I returned home that day I began to make some sketches and the first Knotling was born. Polypore Knotling. |
Polypores are hard woodlike mushrooms that grow on the sides of trees. Knotling love to eat them. They soak them for days in water to soften and then fry them in bee butter to give them a sweet taste. They also use them as shelters from the weather. |
